Pertaining to the topic of connectivity, each weekend we will explore a different dimension of this theme. Participants are free to join for one or both sessions

"Epiic Movement:" Storytelling & movement philosophy with FRIIDOM

Epiic is a philosophy, which is expressed as a style of movement designed to awaken the artist within us all.
We all live in a highly stimulated and noisy world, so in quiet moments we ask ourselves questions of great importance: what are we, where do we come from, where are we going, and who are we striving to be? Epiic believes that in order to answer these questions, one must look within. Epiic also believes that anyone can be great, possess the qualities of an artist, and become inspired to create their own movement. However, that movement must come from deep inside-- the pressures of life's expectations, the truths we accept, created by society, and cemented in our own minds. True artistry and genius does not only come from “The Greats” alone, it also lives within the “Everyday Hero.” Through the use of orchestral & cinematic scores, improvised movement, and acting/theatre techniques, cast and audience are encouraged to connect with their inner child through art instillations and captivating performances. The challenge: “Live Free, Be Epic.”

INTERMEDIATE MARTHA GRAHAM TECHNIQUE WITH PEIJU CHIEN-POTT

Contraction and Release, two principal actions of Martha Graham technique will be explored throughout the whole class. The class will begin with a series of the floor exercises to practice the control of your core muscles, pelvis and back in order to initiate more complex movements later. Next, we will move on to the standing work: focusing on using the gravity to sustain balance while strengthening the use of the torso, the extremities, and challenging weight changes that define the Graham vocabulary.

EXPERIMENTAL CONTEMPORARY with kristen holleyman

An exploratory sessioning of improvisational tasks and phrase-based structures, we listen, question, and play. We explore our body/mind/spirit in relation to internal and external environments. In doing, undoing, being, and reimagining, we get to know ourselves deeper and dive into our curiosities.

GYROKINESIS with Kristen holleyman

These classes can be adapted to fit anyone's ability. People from all walks of life take Gyrokinesis® classes, including accomplished athletes, fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens, and people recovering from an injury or dealing with a disability. By the end of a  session, one's entire system is awakened and brought into greater balance. Focus on the breath stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, resulting in a sense of calm, well-being and mental clarity. This class is a sequencing of spiraling movements initiating from the breath, spine, and seed center out into the body and space.

ZENa-ROMMETT® FLOOR BARRE with PAOLA GHIDINI

Floor Barre® was developed in New York for dancers of major dance companies. Soon the method received a resounding success thanks to the fact that, although it was developed for dancers, it was hugely effective for non-dancers too. Floor-Barre® it’s a workout that creates a great connection between body and mind. Without the pressure of gravity, sequences are performed through controlled movements to educate the muscles how to maximize their strength and length, with no stress and without overloading the joints. Floor-Barre® focuses, in particular, on the acquisition of good body consciousness, postural improvement, core stability and muscle strength. It has been a pioneer in injury prevention and rehabilitation, recommended by many doctors and specialists.

"BECOMING STARFISH" (A FLOOR PLAY):
EXPERIMENTAL CONTEMPORARY FLOORWORK

with kristen holleyman

This is an exploratory approach to floorwork through the lens of starfish anatomy and mobility.

We channel the saltwater of our veins, eyes of our appendages, and navel origination to spiral, suction, soften, propel, push, express, ebb, and flow.

CONTEMPORARY with KIBREA CARMICHAEL

The theme will always be “make something out of nothing” even if it’s just a small gesture make that gesture mean something to you. I play a lot with textures, rhythms, styles and movement flow (the connection between one movement and the next). I classify my classes as contemporary even though it is a fusion of all styles. The movement/choreography allows you to put yourself in it heart, mind, body and soul. There are no limitations to what you can do.

POPPING WITH LADY BEAST

Lady Beast has represented the dance art form of Popping for the past 14 years. She’s performed with Snoop Dogg on the Queen Latifah show, opened up for Jay - Z, Slick Rick, Ciara & T.I.
